Top 10 Tips for Visiting Walt Disney World During Pregnancy

8/16/2022

Are you visiting Walt Disney World while you're expecting? You've come to the right place! (In case you missed it, I'm pregnant!)

I've rounded up the top 10 things that I did for a successful and healthy visit to Walt Disney World during pregnancy!

This post may contain affiliate links, which means that I may earn a small commission at no cost to you.
Picture
1) Talk To Your Doctor
I am not a medical professional. I am a travel advisor & travel blogger sharing my own experiences. Speak to your doctor.

Before you travel to Walt Disney World, make sure that you’ve cleared this with your doctor. Explain your method of travel. (Flying, driving, etc.) Ask if you have any restrictions. Stock up on needed medications, make sure that you have your medical insurance information with you, and carefully heed your doctor’s advice.

Personally, my doctor didn’t restrict anything, but she did tell me to get up and move once per hour on the plane, and to drink extra water before, during, and after my flights. Which brings me to Tip #2…

2) Hydrate!
Like I mentioned, my doctor had me hydrating extra on my travel days. I’ve long been telling readers and clients to hydrate constantly in the parks. (My advice for all folks is to aim for one bottle of water per person, per hour.) In pregnancy, hydrate even more. Drink more water than you've ever drank before. (I always use a water bottle strap to save room in my park bag. I love this one!)

One day, early in our trip, I thought that I was staying on top of the water game. I was not. I was hydrating in the same manner that I do on every trip, and I paid the price later that night with some pretty bad nausea. In retrospect, I didn’t hydrate nearly enough. After that, I doubled my water intake, and that problem didn’t arise again.

3) Snack
Oh man, you’re going to have to snack? At Walt Disney World? Regularly, all day long? Bummer…

4) Rest
I always advocate for the mid-day break back at your resort. If you’re heading back to your resort, take a nap or just lie down in the cool room. Swim. Just make sure you’re still hydrating! If you’re still in the parks, this brings me to Tip #5…

5) Find the A/C!
There are spots to rest, even if you’re in the parks. Take in a show, just so that you can sit back and enjoy the a/c. Find an indoor bench and cool off for a bit. (My rainy day tips actually lists tons of areas where you could sit and cool off for a while!)
6) Pay Attention to Warnings
Read ride warnings carefully. Signs outside the rides will very clearly state that “expectant mothers should not ride.” That’s you!

I know you want to ride your favorite rides. (I get it, trust me!) I know that Rise of the Resistance is the most amazing ride ever, and how rough is Test Track really?

Play it safe, sit out on rides with warnings for pregnant mamas, and find a cool spot to wait for the rest of your party if they choose to ride. There are plenty of rides that you can still enjoy, and the ones you have to miss out on now will still be there after your little one arrives.

7) Wear the Right Shoes
Wearing the correct gear can make all the difference. Let’s start with your footwear. Comfortable shoes matter on every Disney trip, but they matter even more now! I personally prefer these sandals and these tennis shoes for the parks. If you have a dressier evening planned, wear flats. Now isn’t the time for heels, especially after a long day in the parks!
8) Stay Somewhere Convenient
This means somewhere in walking distance, on the Monorail route, or along the Skyliner route. Like I mentioned above, the mid-day breaks are key, and having to wait for a bus (they don’t always run mid-day like you might think!) is the last thing you’ll feel like doing. Of course, you can always use a ride-share service or Minnie Van, but those cost money, and those costs can add up.

Regardless of which Disney Resort you stay at, spring a few extra bucks for a “preferred” room. These are closest to transportation and/or food, and saving those extra steps is extra worth it when it comes to pregnancy exhaustion.

I do NOT recommend staying off-site if you’re an expecting mama. Your travel time will more than double, and you’ll be missing out on tons of perks only reserved for on-site folks. Plus, once you factor in paying for parking, travel time, etc., you aren’t saving much money. In fact, most off-site folks end up spending more in the long run.
9) Listen to Your Body
Time to tap into that intuition! Your body will tell you what it needs. If it needs a rest, give it a break. If it needs water, hydrate! (And then hydrate even more, for good measure!) If your body is telling you you need another Mickey pretzel with extra cheese sauce (mine definitely did) then feed it!

I will say that having a bit of protein really helped to eliminate my nausea, so if you can factor that into your meals/snacks, go for it! But if all you can stomach is carbs, that’s totally fine, too. Your priority is you and your baby, so keep both of you happy!!

10) Enjoy It!
Soak up this time. If this is your first baby, this is a really special time to enjoy a magical trip with just you and your significant other. If you’ve got other little ones, soak up this time as a family before your next little one arrives.

You won’t get this experience back again, so take tons of photos, eat all the snacks, and dream about your next trip once your little one arrives!

Work From Home Faves from Amazon Prime Day 2022

7/13/2022

Do you work from home, like me? Whether you permanently work from home, have a hybrid work schedule, or are just trying to refresh your home office, I've got you covered! Check out my must-haves.

I only recommend products I would use myself and all opinions expressed here are my own. This post may contain affiliate links, which means that I may earn a small commission at no cost to you.
Picture
Let's start with my setup. I use a Chromebook, and found this Samsung Chromebook on a major Prime Day sale!

In meetings, I use a ring light to make sure my clients and team can see me clearly. This one plugs right into your computer via USB, and has a few different light settings, so I can always make sure I'm looking professional in those Zoom/Facetime meetings!

Next up is a great document camera. I started using these long ago in my teaching days, but it also gives me another tool when I'm meeting with clients or sharing information in meetings. This one is a Prime Day special, and very similar to the one I use!

If you know me, you know that I'm always hot. To keep cool, I love this desktop fan that plugs right into your USB port.

I've been sharing a lot of items that plug right into USB, and you might be wondering how I have all of those working simultaneously! The answer is a USB extender. This plugs into a single USB in my computer, and has SEVEN different USB ports, so I can keep everything running smoothly.

Let's talk organization! I love this acrylic desk organizer to keep everything in its place. (It actually makes me want to stay organized!)

2 items I use regularly are my favorite mechanical pencils and some pretty binder clips.

Not everything fits onto my desk. To help organize overflow items, I rely on 2 things: my 3 Tier rolling cart and a great filing cabinet.

Do you work from home, too? What are your favorite items?

Best Suitcases & Packing Gear from Amazon Prime Day 2022

A good trip starts with great packing! Take a peak at some of my favorites!

I only recommend products I would use myself and all opinions expressed here are my own. This post may contain affiliate links, which means that I may earn a small commission at no cost to you.
Picture
The most important part of packing is the luggage, of course! You can't go wrong with this Disney American Tourister Luggage!

Looking for something without the Disney touch? This Samsonite luggage set is perfect!

An organized bag sets yourself up for success! Grab this set of travel packing cubes.

I always use a backpack as my carry-on when I fly. I can stick it below the seat ahead of me along with m purse, and don't have to worry about fighting over that precious overhead bin space. Plus, I can easily access anything I need from it during the flight. A backpack like this one is perfect and (bonus!) I love Under Armour gear.

If there were an award for being an overpacker, I'd definitely win. To make sure your bag's still within the weight limits, grab this travel luggage scale.

  1. First up are my holy grail park sandals. I actually live in these all summer long, and have 3 pairs of them so far! FunkyMonkey Sandals are by far my favorite year after year.
  2. A great water bottle holder is an absolute necessity in the parks. A water bottle holder with a strap, like this one, will save room in your park bag and keep your hands free!
  3. A portable phone charger is another must-have. Your phone will be working overtime in the parks, and My Disney Experience will drain your phone super quickly.
  4. I'm an Apple user through and through and my Apple Watch is one thing I wear every day.
  5. Like I said, I'm an Apple user, and this MagSafe Duo Charger for iPhones & Apple Watches is a personal favorite for charging multiple devices at the end of the day.
  6. It's going to be HOT in Orlando, and a personal neck fan can be a game-changer for staying cool.
  7. You won't be the only one that's hot! Keep your little ones cool with a stroller fan, like this best-selling favorite.
  8. Speaking of strollers, you'll also want to keep your little ones and your belongings dry in the rain. Don't forget to grab a stroller rain cover for those Orlando pop-up storms.
  9. You'll want to keep yourself dry during those rainy days, too! Grab a 4 pack of inexpensive rain ponchos, like these ones!
  10. Once you're back in your hotel room at the end of the day, you'll want to recharge yourself and your phone. Even if you grab the Magsafe Duo charger that I mentioned earlier, I still recommend this 3 pack of 6 ft. Lightning to USB cords. They're great for hotel rooms, and I use them at home, too!
  11. Road tripping? Use these bag hooks for your car to keep bags off the ground.
  12. Road tripping with kids? You'll want these seatback organizers!
  13. Rope-drop mornings can be very early mornings. Grab this Living Proof dry shampoo to help you get out of the door on time!
  14. Florida humidity is no joke. The humidity absolutely zaps my volume, andthis Living Proof Dry Volume Blast keeps my hair looking lively!
  15. I love these Under Armour socks for runDisney races and for wearing with tennis shoes in the parks.
  16. I usually talk about the heat in the parks, but there are times when it can get chilly, too! I love this North Face vest for layering on chillier park days (and for that ever-changing Ohio weather, too!)
For more travel must-haves, be sure to check out what to put in your park bag!

On September 20th, Winnie the Pooh & Friends will return to Magic Kingdom’s Crystal Palace for a lunch and dinner buffet.

September 27th will see the return of Lilo & Stitch to breakfast at the Polynesian Village Resort’s ‘Ohana.

Finally, on October 4th, Minnie & Friends will return to the breakfast buffet at the Beach Club Resort’s Cape May Cafe.

I can’t wait! I’m excited for all of these, but Crystal Palace has a special place in my heart. Which character dining experience are you most excited for?
